For years the honest answer to "what's happening in Seaside this summer" was a shrug and a drive to Monterey or Pacific Grove. That answer is out of date. Between a three-block stretch of Broadway Avenue and the lawn at Laguna Grande Park, the 2026 calendar has quietly consolidated into something you can actually plan your weekends around without leaving the 93955.
The thesis is small but useful. Seaside's summer is no longer a scatter of one-offs. It runs on two anchors, one restaurant corridor and one park, and once you see them that way the season gets a lot easier to schedule.
The Three Blocks Of Broadway Doing The Work
Broadway between roughly 6th and 8th has become the reason people who don't live in Seaside now drive to Seaside on purpose. Three restaurants inside a short walk carry most of the weight.
Maligne, 600 Broadway Ave. Chef Klaus Georis's seafood-forward room picked up a 2026 MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand, the guide's designation for good cooking at a fair price. Inspectors described it as a menu that draws on Italian-American and French classics with a light, contemporary California touch and local ingredients. Georis is not a parachuted-in name. He grew up in the local restaurant scene, and his family is behind Casanova, Corkscrew Cafe and Georis Winery, and he has also worked in Michelin-starred kitchens in Europe and San Francisco. The current dining schedule runs Wednesday through Sunday evenings, which matters if you were assuming you could stroll in on a Monday.
Congo Go!, 800 Broadway Ave, Ste A1. The sign still advertises boba and small bites, and the room still looks like a tea shop. That is the trick. Sisters Thea and Bea Kun opened it in March 2024, when they didn't think a Cambodian restaurant would play in Seaside, so they eased in with drinks and pastries and slowly layered on the food they actually wanted to cook. Thea is culinary-school trained and worked her way up in kitchens starting as a dishwasher. The menu now runs from a Cambodian-style marinated beef bowl to red curry with shredded chicken and potatoes, house-baked banh mi baguettes, and krab puffs made to order. Edible Monterey Bay noted the wider context: they are part of maybe two or three Cambodian restaurants between San Francisco and Santa Barbara. Closed Sundays.
El Padrino, 740 Broadway Ave. The Oaxacan-leaning menu is the counterweight to Maligne's fine-dining pedigree and Congo Go!'s Southeast Asian range. Mole negro, tlayudas, memelas, menudo on weekends. Closed Tuesdays. It matters that all three of these are within a two-minute walk of each other, because it means Broadway now functions as a corridor rather than a set of isolated destinations.
A quick note for households hosting summer guests
If your out-of-town relatives arrive expecting the standard Monterey itinerary, the flex is to swap one of those dinners for Broadway. Maligne for the anniversary dinner, Congo Go! for the "you've never had this before" lunch, El Padrino for the low-key Friday. That is a real change from three summers ago.
Sundays Belong To Laguna Grande
The other anchor is the park at 1259 Canyon Del Rey Blvd. The City's 39th Annual Sunday Blues in the Park concert series runs Sundays 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. from July 12 through August 9, 2026, and the lineup is worth knowing in advance rather than showing up cold:

- July 19 — Zydeco Flames, Los Survivors
- July 26 — Taylor P. Collins, Lauri Hofer Romero & Blue Mambo

Five Sundays. Free. Bring a chair. If you have been in Seaside long enough to remember when the series was still counting into the twenties, this is the 39th year, which puts it among the longest-running civic events in the county.
The Thursday Habit
The same lawn does different work on Thursdays. The Seaside Farmers' Market's summer hours run Thursdays from 4 to 8 p.m. at Laguna Grande Park. Two details on the market that most residents underuse.
First, the Market Match program. Shoppers using CalFresh/EBT can receive up to $30 in additional funds to spend on fruits and vegetables when they spend $30. That is real household grocery money for families who qualify, not a symbolic gesture.
Second, the market is doubling as a small concert venue this summer. On Thursday, July 9, 2026, a Seaside Summer Sessions performance by Musikang Kalipay by Iskwelahang Pilipino of Boston takes place at the market as part of the group's West Coast tour, with the market running 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.. That is one Thursday to actually leave work on time for.
One Saturday To Circle
Independence Day this year is doing double duty. The Red, White, & Blues Celebration runs 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 440 Harcourt Ave, and folded inside it is a piece of civic time-travel: a time capsule sealed in 1976 will be revealed with the Time Capsule Unveiling from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. on the City Hall Lawn. Fifty years of gap between what people in 1976 thought Seaside would want to see and what actually shows up on the lawn to look at it. That is worth the walk over regardless of your feelings about parade barbecues.
The Detour You Actually Need To Know About
Practical piece the events pages will not tell you. If your Sunday routine involves cutting across California Avenue or Playa Avenue to get to the park, plan around this:
SURF! project construction near Playa Ave. and California Ave. will continue July 10 through August 30, 2026, with phased lane and sidewalk closures. Drivers and pedestrians should follow posted signs and detours.
That is straight from the City. The work is on California Ave. near Edgewater Shopping Center and Playa Ave. near Del Monte Blvd., with temporary lane, bike lane and turn-lane impacts and some night work. If you are walking a stroller to the Sunday Blues shows, the sidewalk closures matter more than the lane closures. Add ten minutes.
The Weekends After Broadway And The Park
A few adjacent draws round out the map without diluting the two-anchor logic. Concours d'Lemons, the deliberately-unpretentious car show, lands on the City Hall lawn Saturday, August 15. GRIDLIFE Laguna Festival returns to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Friday, September 18. Monterey Bay FC continues its home schedule at Cardinale Stadium through the summer. None of these are new. What is new is that they now feel like satellites of a downtown that has a working center, instead of the other way around.
What This Actually Says About Seaside
For homeowners watching the neighborhood from the inside, the shift on Broadway is the sort of thing that shows up in appraisals a few years after it shows up in dinner reservations. A Michelin-recognized restaurant, a genuinely rare cuisine getting national food-press attention, and a taqueria that has held its ground on the same block are three independent bets on the same three blocks. Add a civic calendar that has stopped apologizing for itself and started planning five-Sunday concert runs, and the summer starts to read like a market signal rather than a lifestyle roundup.
